What’s On?
Note-taking for Consecutive Interpreting
The LRG is delighted to announce a very special event for interpreters: a two-day workshop on note-taking for consecutive interpreting led by… Andy Gillies!
The workshop is aimed at professional interpreters who are already able to do consecutive but are now a little rusty or looking to improve. This is an intensive mini-course consisting of 8 x 90-minute sessions over two days, totalling six hours of training per day.
Thursday-Friday, 26–27 March 2026, 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. with a two-hour break for lunch
Westminster University, Cavendish Campus, Room C2.15A (Thurs), Room C2.14 (Fri), 115 New Cavendish St, London W1W 6UW
Transcreating with Confidence: Strategic Thinking for Creative Work
Transcreation can be daunting, unless you have a tried-and-tested strategy. And that’s what you’ll take away from this workshop led by expert transcreator Claudia Benetello.
You’ll learn a structured 9-step workflow that formalises best practices and makes transcreation systematic by:
– exploring viable creative routes
– weighing trade-offs
– making deliberate choices you can defend to clients
You’ll see this approach in action during the hands-on practice with source texts in English, French, Spanish, German or Italian. And you’ll come away with an approach grounded in strategic thinking and decision-making, not just inspiration.
Tues 12 May 2026, 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
University College London, Gower Street*, WC1E 6BT, Room: TBC
*Meet by Malet Place gate to UCL (opposite Waterstones) at 4.45 p.m. where UCL staff member Daniela Ford will take us onto campus.

LRG Summer Social 2026
Join us for the annual LRG summer social. This year we’re visiting the best boozers in Balham.
We’ll meet at the Devonshire at the bottom of Balham Hill, then meander south along the high street to Balham Bowls Club.
We then have the option of continuing to the Regent, or heading straight to the Bedford for dinner.
Food is half price at the Bedford! If you’re eating, you’ll need to choose what 2 weeks before (we’ll send the menu nearer the time).
Balham is easily reached by tube on the Northern Line and by train from London Victoria.
All pubs are within 5 minutes walk of Balham tube/rail station.
Tues 9 June 2026 6.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.
Meet: The Devonshire Pub, 39 Balham High Road Balham, London SW12 9AN

There’s more to a hot summer’s evening in Clerkenwell than beers and bustling crowds. A conspiratorial look here, an enquiring glance there, is sufficient to track down the tribe of translators gathering beneath the shiny, modern façade of Farringdon Station. Name...
