Meet the Client
ITI London Regional Group / University of Westminster
Tuesday, 23 March 2021, 6-8.30pm
Come to an online version of our perennially popular event
Our panel of translation company representatives will share their advice and experience with participants, talking about how they entered the profession, giving advice on contacting and creating a relationship with translation companies, dealing with queries and difficulties arising from the text and/or project, exploring new subject areas and expanding your skillset.
After initial presentations from the panel and a Q&A session, participants will be grouped into break-out rooms so they can talk more informally with the speakers. The speakers will move between the groups.
The evening will end with a plenary session and reporting back.
This event is suitable for new entrants to the profession, established professionals, both translators and interpreters and anyone wishing to expand their client base and move into new areas of work.
The workshop will end at approximately 8.30pm
Cost: LRG – free; Non-members and non-UoW students – £5.
(UoW students – free; please book with Lindsay Bywood)

How to improve your translations, and how to get paid more!
Thursday 15 April 2021, 2.30-4pm
Cost: Free for LRG members, £5 for non-members
Marian Dougan, who has many years’ experience as a translator and editor, will consider how we can improve our translations by casting an editor’s eye over the target text, making the end product more readable and user-friendly. She will also consider the thorny question of raising rates and expanding your customer base.
There’s a word for that – COVID-19 terminology
Translation Slam, Wed, 9 June 2021, 7-8.15pm
We have organised a terminology slam, at which we will identify and debate terms that have been generated during the pandemic, in the five languages most common within LRG.
There will be five language ‘rooms’, for: DE>EN>DE; FR>EN>FR; IT>EN>IT; ES>EN>ES, and RU>EN>RU. At the end, we will reconvene in plenary session to review our findings. A list of terms will be distributed ahead of the event.

Venue: Dulwich Village & Dulwich Art Gallery
Cost: free for LRG members; £5 for non-LRG
(NB: there is a separate charge for the Gallery)
We are so excited about the forthcoming guided visit to Dulwich Village and visit (optional) to Dulwich Art Gallery, and very grateful to LRG member and local resident, Jane Jones, for organising the tour.
Jane will meet us at North Dulwich Rail station and take us on a walking tour around the Village, pointing out the many features and attractions of this lovely part of London.
The walking tour will end at Dulwich Picture Gallery where Jane will give some background on its history and architecture and also on some of the featured paintings.
Finally, Jane will reserve a couple of tables at The Crown and Greyhound pub where we can enjoy a drink or meal, hopefully in the large garden.
NB: Visit to the Picture Gallery is optional; please book your entrance yourselves (see below).
As well as the permanent collection of works dating from 1600 to 1800, there is a visiting exhibition on the beginnings of photography. More information at https://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/2020/june/unearthed/
There is an audio tour via an app that you can use on your own phone/headphones. The visiting exhibition is in its final weeks so should be reasonably quiet by now.
Tickets are bookable/payable in advance or can be bought on the day.
Entry to the Gallery including the permanent collection and exhibition is £16.50 (£15 without donation; £8 for Art Fund cardholders).
